About our Products.

How Acoustics Work

Good acoustics make a space feel calm and balanced. Our panels, baffles, and dividers absorb excess noise and reduce echo, helping offices, homes, or studios feel more comfortable and clear. Learn which solution is right for your space.

Why 3D Printing?

3D printing lets us create furniture that’s impossible to make with traditional methods. Each piece is printed layer by layer, giving it unique shapes, textures, and a modern look. It’s our way of pushing design forward while keeping waste low.

Custom & Projects

Every space is different. We offer custom sizes, colors, and finishes so your panels or furniture fit exactly how you need them to. We also work with architects and designers on special projects — just reach out and we’ll build it together.

Sound absorption vs. sound blocking explained for homes and offices.

Acoustic Panels vs Soundproofing: What’s the Difference and Which Do You Need?

The Honest Truth: We Make Panels, So Here Is What They Can’t Do

Most suppliers who sell acoustic solutions will try to pitch you expensive structural work or claim a few decorative felt sheets will magically silence a barking dog next door. At Formed, we design and produce architectural acoustic felt panels and wall art. We do not carry out general soundproofing construction.

Because we only specialize in absorption, we can be upfront about it: Acoustic panels do not block sound from entering or leaving a room.

If your goal is to prevent your neighbor’s late-night TV from leaking through a dividing wall, decorative panels will not solve the issue. But if your room feels harsh, hollow, echoing, or exhausting during video calls and dinners, acoustic panels are precisely what you need.

Quick Comparison: Absorption vs. Sound Blocking

Feature Acoustic Panels (Sound Absorption)Soundproofing (Sound Blocking)Primary Goal

Reduces echo and cleans up sound inside the room.

Stops sound transmission between rooms or from outside.

How It Works

Open-cell, porous felt traps sound waves and stops reflections.

Dense, airtight mass (gypsum, decoupled studs, heavy barriers) stops vibration.

Installation Surface-mounted onto walls or suspended from ceilings (minimal disruption).

Heavy structural work (stud walls, ceiling drops, subfloors, landlord permits).

Best For

Echoey living rooms, lively dining spaces, zoom calls, open offices.

Home cinemas, recording booths, loud machinery, shared adjoining walls.

Two Quick Self-Tests to Identify Your Issue

Before spending a dirham on renovations or panels, run these two quick tests:

1. The Clap Test (Echo Check)

Stand in the middle of your space and clap your hands sharply once.

  • What you hear: If you hear a sharp, metallic "ring" or a lingering hiss after the clap, your room has excess reverberation.
  • The fix: You need sound absorption (acoustic panels, felt baffles, or acoustic wall art).

2. The Source Check ("Where is it coming from?")

Close all doors and windows, then listen to the unwanted noise.

  • What you hear: Can you understand words spoken in the corridor? Do you hear vehicle tires on the road or heavy footsteps from the apartment upstairs?
  • The fix: Sound is physically transmitting through air gaps or building structures. You need structural soundproofing or improved acoustic perimeter seals.

Dubai Rooms: Symptoms, Causes, and the Right Fix

Room / Scenario the Symptom the Root Cause the Right Solution Modern Dubai Villa Living Room

Clinking cutlery sounds harsh; everyday family talk feels loud and tiring.

Large open spaces with polished marble or ceramic tile flooring and glass windows.

Acoustic Panels / Art: Mount decorative felt wall art and panels, paired with soft rugs and drapes.

Apartment Bedroom

You can hear the neighbor’s TV or conversations through the shared wall.

Insufficient mass or decoupling in the partition wall.

Soundproofing: Adding independent studs, acoustic plasterboard, and mineral wool (requires building work).

Corporate Glass Meeting Room

Voices sound hollow on Zoom calls; speech sounds jumbled inside the room.

Hard parallel glass partitions and gypsum drywall bouncing voice frequencies endlessly.

Acoustic Panels / Baffles: Install felt wall panels at speech level or ceiling baffles overhead.

Downtown Dubai Café / Restaurant

Noise spirals out of control as tables fill up; guests have to shout to be heard.

The "Lombard Effect" — customers talk louder to beat the background echo, raising room volume.

Acoustic Treatment: Felt wall finishes, ceiling rafts, and dividers to soak up chatter.

When Do You Need Both?

Certain specialized spaces demand a hybrid approach:

  • Home Cinemas: Heavy construction blocks bass frequencies from shaking the rest of your home, while acoustic panels tune the interior, so movie dialogue sounds crisp and clear.
  • Private Executive Boardrooms & Podcast Studios: Dense walls ensure confidential discussions stay inside, while wall-mounted felt panels eliminate unwanted room resonance on recordings.

Common Myths Debunked

  • "Egg-crate foam will soundproof my room. "False. Lightweight packing foam does not possess the density or mass required to stop sound transmission.
  • "Thicker panels stop neighbor noise. "False. While thicker panels absorb lower audio frequencies better, they cannot seal or isolate structural noise.
  • "Acoustic treatment looks like a recording studio. "Not anymore. Architectural panels are available in over 27 contemporary felt shades, precision-cut linear grooves, fluted patterns, wood finishes, and sculpted wall art that blend seamlessly into premium interiors.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. Will acoustic panels keep traffic noise out of my Dubai apartment?

No. Traffic noise enters through glazing, window frames, and exterior balcony gaps. Acoustic panels only soften noise that is already inside the room.

2. Can acoustic panels give me speech privacy in a glass office?

Acoustic panels stop voices from echoing and improve clarity within the room, but sound will still bleed through standard glass doors or open ceilings unless physical sound seals and double glazing are installed.

3. Do acoustic panels require landlord or building management approvals?

In most cases, no. Formed wall panels and acoustic art install cleanly using standard wall clips, adhesives, or screws, just like hanging a large mirror or artwork.

4. What is the difference between sound absorption and sound insulation?

Sound absorption controls sound within an enclosed space (measured by absorption coefficients like NRC) [cite: 4, 10]. Sound insulation stops sound passing from one side of a barrier to another (measured in dB reduction / STC) [cite: 4, 5, 10].

5. How much wall coverage do I need for echo reduction?

Most standard rooms see a noticeable improvement with coverage across 10% to 25% of the total wall area, depending on ceiling height and floor finishes.

6. Can soft furnishings replace acoustic panels?

Rugs, heavy curtains, and fabric sofas help absorb higher frequencies, but specially engineered PET acoustic felt delivers substantially higher, balanced absorption across the human speech spectrum [cite: 6, 10].
